Frequently asked questions about material codification, cleansing, UNSPSC and the VCode approach.
Duplicate Identification
What is duplicate material identification?+
Duplicate material identification is the process of finding material records that refer to the same physical item but are stored as separate entries in your ERP — often with different descriptions, units or codes.
How does VCode identify duplicates?+
VCode uses three tiers: exact match (same description), likely duplicate (different wording, same item based on attributes), and 'requires technical review' (partial match needing specialist judgment).
What happens after duplicates are identified?+
VCode provides a report listing duplicate pairs and recommends which record to retain. Your team reviews and approves before any changes are made in the ERP.
Can AI automatically remove duplicates?+
No — and it shouldn't. Duplicate removal affects stock balances, open POs and existing transactions. VCode flags candidates for human review; your team makes the final call.
